Moses

Moses, 41, is a loving devoted father of three sons: Dennis, 15; Nicholas, 12; and Dickson, 10.  He is trying to give them what he never had-a homelife.  Moses grew up without knowing anything about his parents and having to herd cattle in order to get food and lodging at homes.  Because he had to work for food and shelter he never received an education, which has made life difficult in providing for his family.  His wife deserted him and their sons and he spends most of his time doing odd jobs like ironing clothes to provide a basic meal for them.

While he is talkative and friendly, he doesn't find any time for fun because he considers raising his children in a God-fearing way to be the most imprtant thing he can do.  He is proud to be a child of God.

His three sons are already better off than he was because of his devotion to them.  They have hope.   Dennis, his oldest who will be 16 in July wants to be a computer engineer, but he is currently unable to attend school due to expensive high school tuition. Nicholas, the middle child who will be turning 13 in the middle of May, wants to be a doctor.  Dickson, the youngest at 10, wants to be a pastor.

Moses' goal to provide a steady income and consistent healthy meals, like ugali and stew. He currently operates a tiny shop where he and his oldest son sell mandazi (breakfast bread). He has hopes to access a small loan so that he can move his business to a better location and begin to sell housewares, which will enable him to increase his income and keep his boys in school.

Moses' 2017 Update:

Moses' primary business includes running his cafe, which he has been at for 5 years, and catering different events. He now has outside seating for his cafe so that he can accommodate for even more guests. His spot has lots of commuters and he even delivers lunches and has the delivery dishes returned to save money and be environmentally friendly. There is currently construction on the roads outside his cafe, but he hopes this will bring in more customers.

Moses recently got married and has 2 stepchildren. His wife works for Kenya Cafe where she makes coffee. After Moses got married, he moved to a bigger home that was closer to work and all of the children are getting along well. His usually bright smile and uplifting personality seem even more inspired and genuine nowadays.

"To even think someone like you on the other side of the world is thinking about someone like me, that is God," said Moses. He is grateful for the opportunities Under the Same Tree has given to him and his family, and we are grateful for his testimony, faith, and hope.
