Maveline
Maveline is a young single mother who is raising her children in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. She is 25 years old, and has three children: Voclyn (11 years old), Briton (7 years old), and Kate (2 years old). Maveline's husband was killed in an accident at work two years ago, causing the family to fall into extreme poverty. Maveline did not want to have to leaver her children at an orphanage, but began to struggle to provide for their basic needs. The children had to miss several years of school following their father's death due to lack of school fees. Maveline currently makes money by doing odd jobs such as laundry and housekeeping. Maveline would like to start a business selling fish, and is currently apprenticing through our microfinance program to develop small business skills.
You can partner with Maveline to empower her to raise her children well, and see her family thrive. $360 or $30 per month will fund her training and small business loan for one year.
Maveline's 2017 Update:
Maveline currently sells omena (small fish), which is an inexpensive form of protein. She is earning more income than a year ago and was able to move into a bigger home. Moving forward, she hopes to add more products to her business and find a consistent place to sell her inventory at.
Get to Know Anna
Anna's primary business includes sewing children's clothing and making jewelry. She used her loan to make necklaces, earrings, and other custom pieces that she sells in Kampala and Kiboga. Her future plans are to expand business and possibly begin building homes that can be rented out as well as continue buying more materials for sewing and jewelry.
